Hedgehog Houses for memorial spaces.
As part of our community engagement fund, we’re delivering free hedgehog houses to cemeteries and crematoriums across the UK.
Why Hedgehog Houses?
Rural populations of hedgehogs have fallen 50% since 2000; urban numbers are down by around a third. Up to 335,000 are killed on roads each year in the UK. Simple habitat tweaks in managed green spaces measurably help.
Cemeteries and crematoriums are the perfect place to nurture wildlife including hedgehogs. There are some things to watch out for – strimmers, pesticides and machinery for example – but with care and attention we can help this iconic British species bounce back – at least in our own spaces.
